Creating an esthetic implant restoration with gingival architecture and an emergence profile that harmoniously blend with the adjacent dentition is a challenge. It is even more difficult when there are multiple missing adjacent teeth. A vital part of the emergence profile is established by the periodontium and it's overlying tissue thickness and height; these factors therefore must also be carefully considered to help ensure optimal esthetic results. This article discusses the various factors that affect soft tissue height and thickness and offers strategies for managing and enhancing per-implant soft tissue esthetics.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize the different gingival phenotypes and distinguish which are best for implant dentistry.
Identify strategies for the preservation of bone and tissue.
Understand the rationale behind supportive temporary implants.
