Course Description:
Color, hue, chroma, and value in a composite restoration will help us create an acceptable result, but in order to create a truly world class outcome that mimics nature using a manufactured material requires an added dimension.
In dentistry, we often overlook how we can add this extra dimension to our restorations, this can be done by adding secondary and tertiary anatomy to our composites. Any artist will discuss the importance of light reflection in copying natural materials and the part reflective and deflective surfaces play in the creation of a perfect replica and this applies equally to our dental composites.
This course discusses a structured, practical way to assess the kinds of secondary anatomy we need to ensure symmetry and correct light reflection in the finishing of our composites as well as a step-by-step guide in creating polished tertiary anatomy (texture) and the amount of texture required
Learning Objectives:
How to train our eyes to appreciate the anatomical quirks in dental anatomy that need to be copied in order to emulate nature.
How to assess the quantity and quality of anatomy to place into our composite restorations.
How to place the secondary and tertiary anatomy into your composites in a structured and predictable way.
About the Presenter:
Richard Coates BDS, Pg Dip CID, ABACD, AAACD
Dr. Coates has over 30 years of experience in Dentistry, having graduated with a BDS from Newcastle University in 1992. Richard is one of only 2 dentists in the UK (and the only dentist in the UK outside of London) to be Accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. This is a world-renowned qualification held by very few dentists indicating his work has been scrutinized by the world’s most influential dental experts. More locally he is President of the North East Private Dentists.
He travels the world extensively to courses and has been a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry for 14 years and was a member of the European Society of Cosmetic dentistry for years before that. He is also one of only 19 dentists in the U.K. to be accredited with the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
