Although interdental papillae play an important role in cosmetic dentistry, there is no predictable surgical technique for reconstructing lost papillae. However, orthodontic measures are often appropriate and successful, provided proper diagnosis and mechanotherapy are applied. This article offers orthodontic alternatives that involve careful manipulation of tooth position to reconfigure the papilla to fill the gingival embrasure. Clinicians should analyze and determine the nature and direction of the tooth movement that will prove most beneficial in each situation, then correctly employ orthodontic mechanotherapy to obtain the desired outcome.
